Addis Ababa Housing Development Corporation has announced that it will make a decision on the owners of the condominiums that were transferred through auction and lottery by November 30, 2017.
What did the General Director of the corporation, Ato Shimelis Tamrat, say in his statement to the Reporter newspaper?
- From December 1, 2017, the work of separating those who have entered their homes and those who have not entered them according to the set deadline has begun.
- From September 20 to October 30, 2017, a reminder was given to homeowners to enter, and the deadline was extended again until November 30, 2017. A warning was given to homeowners to enter.
- According to his observations, there are those who have entered their homes, those who have rented them, and those who are under renovation.
- The work of identifying all sites will begin after the deadline has passed.
In relation to this, what is planned to be done with the houses that have not been transferred to their owners through the lottery? To the question, “Since the deadline has passed recently and the reasons for not having entered their houses, namely:
° Not being alive,
° Not wanting to enter,
° Not being in the country,
° Legal issues and other related reasons will be investigated,” he said.
To the question, “How many houses are there that have not been transferred to their owners through the lottery and auction?” he replied, “Their size varies, but they are available in all sites, but it is difficult to say how many.”
“The main thing is not the number; because they are open, residents are facing various problems and many complaints are being received by the corporation from different sites.”
“It is not fair to keep an empty house in a city with a housing problem,” he said, adding that “a decision will be made soon after the houses where the owners have not moved in are identified.”
It is worth noting that the corporation had previously stated in its final warning that if the homeowners do not move in, the contract would be terminated by law.
It is worth noting that residents who do not move in within the given time limit will not only have their sales contract terminated, but will also be held liable for any illegal activity that occurs in their homes.
